As the New Year begins, we have new resolutions to make. A common resolution is to be healthier. One way we all know to become healthier is to change our diet and exercise. However, our pets don’t know it’s resolution time. It’s time for us to help our furrier family members get healthy! We should make resolutions to our pet’s health. This means, less treats and more exercise.

As with people, good health in pets can lead to extended life. The Ohio Veterinary Association believes that 40 percent of our nations’ pets are overweight but most of the pet owners don’t think their pet needs to loose weight. The risks of obesity for pets including arthritis, diabetes, heart disease and a higher risk for cancers.

Simple changes to diet and lifestyle can help ward off these risks for our pet. You can talk with your vet to help you come up with a health program and then have the whole family get involved. The association suggests that pet owners can take these steps in improving the health of pets:

  • Feed measured amounts of food.
  • Eliminate table scraps and high-calorie treats.
  • Increase walks and playtime.

This is the time of year to start new trends, let 2010 be a health trend for you and your pets! Happy New Year from all of us at CARE!

Hello!

One of our kitties looking for a forever home!

We are happy to announce that C.A.R.E. now has adoption hours! Thanks to the continued success of our Adoption Days’ in which we open our doors to the public, we recognize the need to have regular adoption hours. We have a new adoption coordinator, Tina and with her help we are now able to have regular adoption hours! The adoption hours are Monday through Friday from 4-6PM and Saturday and Sunday from 1-5PM! Please stop by and visit some kitties that are ready to love you! We can be contacted with any questions about adoption, or the cats we have at : adoptions@careinitiative.org

New Adoption Hours:

M-F 4-6PM

S+S 1-5PM

What a cutie! Don't you wanna cuddle with her?

In other news, our website has been updated and now includes the process of how to adopt from us! See the list here! It’s a 7-step process with the 7th step being bringing your new family member home. We have this adoption process in place to ensure that you and your new friend are the best possible match and to help with the transition of adopting. We are happy to work with you and will try our best to successfully match you with a new companion.

Thanks for reading and happy holidays to you and yours from all of us (and the cats) at C.A.R.E. and don’t forget, to search the web with our igive.com search, http://www.iGive.com/careinitiative.

Did you know that C.A.R.E. and Karma Yoga Studio (http://www.karmayogastudio.com/) are partners? Well they are, and thanks to that partnership we have events like Jenn Pici’s “yoga for cats” and the weekly Karma class. All the money from those classes goes to C.A.R.E. to help fund our efforts to help the local abandoned, injured and orphaned animals.

Jenn Pici recently helped C.A.R.E. by holding a “yoga for cats”
session in which she teaches and donates all the money raised;
including her personal pay to C.A.R.E. Jenn’s class on October 27th
was candle-lit and kindhearted. She had nineteen yogis’ come to class
and many of them donated extra money on top of the cost of class,
raising an extra $50 for C.A.R.E. (Thank you all so00 much!!)

Actions like this are beneficial for C.A.R.E. and the community
(helping both people and cats). It was so thoughtful of Jenn to donate
her time and expertise to raise money for C.A.R.E., and the cats, all
while helping people find inner peace, balance and tranquility.

Karma Yoga Studio also offers a weekly way to lend a hand to C.A.R.E.
through the Karma Class, a vinyasa class on Sunday’s at 6:00, in which
the teachers donate all proceeds to C.A.R.E. We want to send a special
thanks to all the teachers at Karma who donate their time and skills
to help out C.A.R.E. It’s an extraordinary partnership indeed!

You can help C.A.R.E. to raise funds by coming out to our Adoption
Days (check www.careinitative.org) or by using our igive search engine
( C.A.R.E. (Community Animal Rescue and Education).
